RUBY

Prized throughout history for their rich red colour, rubies are a variety of the mineral corundum, which makes them the second hardest mineral after diamond. It is found in different shades of red, ranging from pink to deep red, which is the most valuable shade. Its red colour is due to the presence of chromium in it. It is one of the top three major coloured gemstones, other than sapphire and emerald. It is called ‘manak’ in Hindi.
